ATC113BD1 squeel, HOT blown

Aug 08, 2005 3 Replies

This is the first repair I've attempted on this chassis. The customer said it "shut off" while they were watching it. The PS whines when the set is plugged in. I put in a sub HOT (2SD1887, just for diags) and powered the set with a series light bulb. The PS just pulses and the waveform on the HOT collector is very distorted. The HOT base components are properly soldered (no glue). My Dick Smith flyback checker only hits two on the scale. All the fly secondary diodes/loads check OK. I'm ready to order up a flyback and RCA HOT. Anybody see any flaws in my procedures or have any suggestions before I spend the bucks? I live in SW Washington State and usually order from Pacific Coast Parts in Portland, but they don't have the fly. I've heard of Tritronics but never ordered from them. Are their prices reasonable or should I try somewhere else. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks!

Didn't the ATC113 chassis line suffer from the same connection problems to the coil on the base of the HOT like the ctc203?

YES! Not as common, I occasionally see one. The common failures is fly either way for 32" and 36" for CTC203/ATC113. In 32" and 36" I mentioned especially for that two chassis types, if there's no glue on coil, HOT blown, caps & diodes, solder joints in horizontal drive/HOT/fly checks out ok, replace fly & HOT.

The glue on coil:

CTC203: L14401 ATC113: LL02

By the way, check that pin amp transistor is mounted on heatsink properly for CTC203/ATC113. They're commonly found sloppily installed. 3 out of 5 had this.

Cheers, Wizard
