well SIRF is a company making GPS chipsets and they do have one that include a ARM processor.

I'm interested in having easy to program GPS Solution... and if we can get linux working on the device it's easier?!

You're not the first to wonder about that. I suppose it would be possible. Unfortunately, merely doing it would invalidate the point of doing it in the first place, since you would loose the [proprietary] SW tracking the GPS satelites. Sirf do redistribute the official ARM developement tools. I once e-mailed them and asked them - in what I find a polite manner - if it would be possible to link with GCC generated code. No reply.

OTOH, GPS tracking is public known information and there are university programs doing this kind of SW. So if you could lay your hands on some open source GPS tracking SW, then maybe... [But then you hardly need Sirf, do you?]

Hmmmmm, I have no idea but I'll check that. Maybe we can find some information. With emails it like in most big companies. If you have an email adress on the web its routed to anyone in the marketing dep or to the front desk and what do these people know about gcc ;)

I'll try to come back with some more information.
