Jun 09, 2004 2 Replies

Hi All,

I download snapgear-3.1.1.tar.gz from

formatting link

And try to uncompress in RedHat 9.0 as follows : #tar -xzvf snapgear-3.1.1.tar.gz

I got the following error message : .. Skipping to next header Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers incomplete literal tree gzip: stdin : invalid compressed data -- format violated

Anyone know why ?

Thank you.

Forgot to transfer it in FTP binary mode? Your file is corrupted somehow, that's the most probable.

Hi Irnita,

Yes, It looks like it got corrupted somehow. I just checked the integrity of the file on the server, and it's definately fine. Unfortunately, you might have to download it again. Try using a proper download tool like wget, rather than a web browser, and the server does support resume/continues if you do get disconnected halfway through.
