Chips which analyse light?

I need to get a rough spectrum of a light.

Anyone know of chips which analyse light? Are there any?

In alternative: color CCD chips?

in astronomy afaik they use linear image sensors (like used in faxes and scanners) combined with prisms or diffraction gratings.

will give you a three-band "spectrum"

same effect could be got with three photodiodes and colour filters.

A prism or diffraction grating and a linear monochrome CCD sensor ought to give you a decent spectrum.

Did I really still have that sig?
