Hi, I dont know if this is the right forum to ask but I would like to know what is firmware testing is all about. I have been asked if I am interested in this but have not worked in this area before(I am from hardware background) so please let me know of any links or sites which can give me an idea.

Neo, firmware is the funtionality of a device. So testing firmware is testing the functionaliy of the device.

You are testing the built-in software rather than the hardware.

Obviously the lines may blur. In general, the software is going to be more complipcated than a lot of hardware, and so the errors may involve very unusual occurances - think about how you would go about verifying the windows operating system (and then realize that there's a version of it marketed for embedded applications!).

Though if by hardware your mean a processor or comparable complexity asic, then verifying that can be pretty complicated too.

Check out comp.software.testing. It's not firmware specific, but it's a good ng.
