Of course not! Too many loyal minions in power.

What really needs to be done is bring him up on charges of war crimes and malicious mayhem, and let him rot in prison with Bubba.

Thanks, Rich

Ah, the old "they did it first" defence. There's no denying that various European countries exploited others all over the world for a few hundred years, and have generally messed things up for themselves and each other for longer than that. But since around WWII, the USA took over that role (and also, until recently, the USSR), and they haven't been doing a better job. Sure, it was the British that created Iraq and Palestine in the first place - but the USA has had plenty of influence in keeping things difficult. You can't really blame Europeans for what their long-dead grandparents did (although you can ask them to do a better job of fixing some of the inherited problems), but you certainly can blame the current American administration for what it is doing now.

Hardly.... Islam is the fastest growing religion in the USA!!!!

In Europe most countries are sectarian and not religious.

That *IS* the problem. They are refusing to resign despite everyone (except Blair) calling for them to resign.

I'll give you a few quick links:

Health spending in the USA far outweighs any other country, yet it ranks

27th on life expectancy (I remember reading that it ranks around 37th in more general health terms, but I have no link for that):

Here's a few links about hunger and food handouts in the USA, based on (amongst other things) official USDA data:

Now, explain to me how this all indicates good government? As you say, you live in the USA, and I don't, so you tell me how this all fits together. Show me some links indicating that your current government acknowledges these problems and is actively and successfully working to resolve them.

I don't "blame" anybody for what their dead grandparents did. But I do appreciate that the state of today's world is a function of its past, and its past was overwhelmingly cast by the actions of Europe, much of which was seriously unsavory. The US is what is and is where it is out of reactions to forces, not global ambition to rule.

I do see the European attitude as passive and sanctimonious, without much feeling for the effects of past actions. Seems to me that most Europeans think history started in 1945, so, qed, the US is to blame for everything. Someone in a nearby post balmed the US for spending a trillion dollars in Iraq when we should have spent it curing world poverty; so where is the trillion Euros?

Too bad the UN is such a mess.

So? You expect Bush to want to watch a leftist weenie station?

I'm listening to Al "Bush is a liar" Franken right now, but I watch Fox in the afternoon until Liddy & Hill come on the radio. Fox is certainly right wing, but I never catch them in a lie.

Limpball is another matter altogether ;-)

I don't think we're there yet, but W sure is trying.

Remember when he vowed to start a "crusade"?

He's not going to be happy until he's crowned king and gets to behead people who disagree with him.

You misunderstood me. I meant that that trillion dollars would have been better spent *in Iraq* by providing infrastructure and education than by invasion and mistreatment.

Too bad the US undermines it, and behaves as if it's above it.

That's not a UN report, but rather, someone's opinion of thereof, from shortly after the hurricane, based on 'information' that has since been discredited (i.e., that the hurricane supposedly disproportionately spared whites).

It's based on shoddy, cynical, fallacious reasoning, using all the mischievous chicanery common to such purposes.

It's rubbish.

You assume that government is the answer. In many cases, it's the problem. There are things government simply can't do--it lacks the right feedback mechanisms. Governments are rewarded for *spending money,* not for successful programs/policies. Once the money is spent, no one bothers to check and see whether the investment yielded any results. Spending gets votes. Cutting doesn't.

Accordingly, the evidence is all around us that governments are poor allocators of funds.

Surely, eventually, intelligent people *must* see that many social programs fail, and that adding more money simply consumes the new funds without improving the results.

You cite a number of instances where government hasn't lived up to your expectations.

Strange, how those most critical of government are the most adamant we need more of it.

Regards, James Arthur

What's to stop? There is nothing wrong with Iran having nuclear Power.

On the other hand there is the US funding of Israel who does have nuclear and chemical weapons. BTW Israel is in breach of far more UN sanctions than Iraq ever was. It would have been in breach of far more but the US sued it's Veto in the UN (more than the USR ever did)
