Is that an SI unit? It would be useful.

A cheap tube radio wouldn't be exact about anything, but those radios IFs were nominally 455. I could fine-tune it and change the pitch of the whine so it was clearly a heterodyne. The architecture was called "all-American five." Occasionally someone would tip one into her bathtub and die.
Tube car radios used a different IF for some reason. Vibrator HV supplies. The pushbutton tuning mechanism was clever.
Try google.
I didnae mean to crash the train, I was just Larkin about!
What's cheating about it? There's no point in the half you can't see.
ra ra ra. So could I by the time I was ten.
I went on to design em.
Did you not consider renovating it? Probably worth a fortune now. Jeez people are auctioning 386 computers.
Ah, dumbass desk jockeys.
Means the same thing in essence. "Slow down".
First time I saw someone repeatedly lowering his flat palm, I thought (and so did the colleague I was car sharing with) he was trying to tell us we'd left something open. Apparently he was telling us to slow down as there was an accident ahead.
I was once on holiday reversing out of a layby on a blind bend in the countryside. A German tourist raised one finger in the air. I assumed that meant "it's ok to go", so I reversed and nearly slammed into a passing car. Apparently he meant "wait". Typical German efficiency, only use a single finger instead of the whole hand to stop someone.
It was -- with five or six incompatible schemes.
How many syllables does that have? I'm never sure about Zoe.
Is that like Bogons and Unified Bogosity Theory?

These sort that:
Probably saves a lot of other problems with that prevention.
I had a 1988 Range Rover with a 3.5 litre V8 and an automatic gearbox with no safety interlocks at all. I could floor it in neutral, select drive, and do a 4 wheel wheel spin. The huge tyres soon gripped, but it made a really loud screech that scared the s*it out of nearby pedestrians (if the V8 hadn't already). But not quite as startling as when I had it converted to run on propane gas, and it often refused to start. Gas built up in the exhaust and caused a violent explosion. One time I was turning it over and over and a young lad was stood behind me. I said "I wouldn't stand there". He said "Why not?" I said "Because I'm going to shoot you". It exploded and he fell over backwards with fright.
I did that with a Rover Maestro. I think it was my fault it broke, too many wheelspins.
I had a car where I had to leave the heater on in summer to keep the engine cool.
Old people don't ski.
My car broke down 200 yards from my destination. The battery died and I stalled it at a junction. The destination was my parents's house. My mother wasn't up to pushing, and my dad was out. She followed me to the car anyway, but by then someone was peering into it, wandering why someone had "parked" on a junction. He pushed it for me.
I've always wondered why the rain doesn't short everything out on the dash when people do that.
I've never heard that expression, I thought it was a J turn the world over.
I used to, until I got cars which didn't run out. Then borrowed one which did. Called the breakdown service twice - once for the busted fan belt, then again because there was no gas. Stupid thing had no warning light, just a guage!
Alledgedly it's illegal to carry gas in the back.
All BMWs oversteer. Stupid designers think RWD is a good idea. They also think putting two collapsing suns for headlights is a good idea. Yeah, you can see, but the driver coming the other way cannot.
I recently drove my car through what looked to be a 6 inch flood. It turned out to be 3 feet. I managed to nudge the water and create a bow wave, then followed it. I flagged down a van coming the other way and advised him it wasn't a good idea to go that way.
Turns out the council had put up a flood warning sign, on the verge, in the dark, a little triangle, just coming off the roundabout, when you tend to be looking in a different direction.
