USB vbus

Hi everyone we are designing a board using an isp1505 USB controller. i have a question regarding connecting (or to be precise, no connecting) the vbus controller pin to the USB connector. I am assuming that each connection to USB will be a self powered connection. Is it "legal" of conecting the USB connector pin vbus to



5v, and leave the controller pin open? should this be a problem according to the disconnecting/connecting of the USB device (idetification etc.)? would appriciate any help. Thanks, Oded

Well, PeteS my Dear, Thanks for link(!?) Actually i read the spec before i asked this question. The vbus is an IO pin wether the device can draw power from the bus, or if it's involved with power host or hub ti can supply the power/current. the spec tell about the 100mA curent consumption for low power devices/high power... but it nothing is written whether can i "cheat" the USB Transciner by connecting its vbus to 5v, assuming that each device will be self powered from external power, and letting the miniaml consumption specifed for the self powered devices. and if my tranciver has thr role of a peripheral it will draw power for its own source. must the vbus USB minAB connector pin be connected to the vbus transceiver pin?

You need to get a better hub.

It may be worthwhile for me to detail the very complex schematic of a typical hubs power supply arrangements. A fuse at the +5V input, and then hardwired to all outputs in parallel. That's it. No individual power switches, ...
