IIRC, The Nelson and Lambert parts of the family are the current proprietors... I'll confirm that with my Dad... he'll be 88 in October ;-)

My father was born in Riverton, Pendleton County. My mother was born in Philippi, Barbour County.

I was born in DC, but we quickly moved to Huntington, WV, when my father got an electrician's job in Oak Ridge, TN, working on... ;-)

When the war broke out my father tried to enlist in the Navy, but the Army drafted him first. ALL four of my uncles served in WWII, three in the Army, one in the Navy.

After the war my father returned to Huntington and worked as an electrician until there was TV. Then he opened a TV repair shop, then a TV/hardware store combination.

He "retired" in 1990. So far he has hand-made 60+ dulcimers; and still performs in a hillbilly band ;-)

I graduated Huntington East High School in 1958, went off to MIT on an Alumni Fund National Scholarship, graduated in 1962... to Motorola, Phoenix, and you know the rest ;-)

I'm not familiar with Riverton--but I know where Philippi is--I almost went to AB college--but it was too $$$ and ended up at WV Tech instead.

He'd have told you, but then had to kill ya' :) Did you see the history channel show about all the silver taken from the treasury during the war to use on those 'electrician projects'? It was astounding. Billions in 1940 dollars...

That's cool. Does he make hammered dulcimers too? or guitars? I love hammered dulcimers and their clear bell-like tone. Does he make it to the Ronceverte Bluegrass festival near the Greenbrier?

I always enjoy talking to folks that share some 'geographical history' with me.
