Making small batches of expensive parts doesn't make as much money as making huge batches of popular parts. The ideal production line is one making the same product all the time.

Making small batches of parts that can be sold for a high price is a commercial decision. If marketing doesn't care about keeping the small number of customers involved happy, they can make the commercial decision to stop doing that.

Those customers aren't going to design in TI parts in the future, if they can avoid it, but TI seems to be less sensitive to that sort of consideration than other manufacturers.

I always have concerns about any part I use. The FPGAs tend to have a very long life so they aren't too big of a concern. The rest of the parts I use tend to be items that aren't likely to go away for some time. In fact, many of the passives become more and more common as they push the technology. That reminds me, I need to check for a part that currently is an 0805 on 0603 pads so I don't have to redo the board. Maybe they have a cap that will fit now...

My problem is just getting the parts when I need them. I have an AKM CODEC on the board and when I try to build 100 boards I'm told the lead time is 12 or 14 weeks. I check around myself and there are 48,000 on order with NuHo, but they are all for some customer and none for inventory. Fortunately Digikey stocks this part, but they are back ordered as well at the moment. I just hope they aren't pulling my chain on delivery date. If they slip, I won't be shipping on time.

I have a local salesperson with NuHo who calls me when she has a factory guy to take around and they have a spare hour. She knows I am very flexible with time and just plain likes to talk to me. She got me a Lattice eval board a couple of months ago when the Lattice web page misrepresented a sale they were having. :)

She also knows how to trim quotes on replies, unlike many people here... lol

Ooh, crabby today.

We have a lot of reps who call practically begging to be allowed to bring over a principal or two to make presentations. There's not much hardware design in this neighborhood - it's all Twitter and iPad apps nonsense - so if some guys fly in from Japan or whatever, for a conference or just to visit prospects, the reps need victims to fill out the schedule.

We get a visit from LTC and TI at least once a year. It was like that in New Orleans, too, a scenic place with lots of conferences but not much hardware design going on... desperate reps there, too.

Hey, I do that a lot more than most here! Although I may often only start when it doesn't fit on my screen.

And I don't think I have *ever* seen anyone do that for commercial email. Conversations usually end up consisting mostly of nests of huge signature blocks with images, adverts and legalese.

Sorry, I guess I shouldn't have gotten on your case. But there is no point in reminding the real offenders like Larkin and Joerg among many others. They just don't give a durn.

It's one thing to forget to trim sometimes, but to never trim a post habitually is just plain rude. It's not much different from tossing your gum wrapper on the ground. When someone reminds you to use the trash can, your response speaks volumes about who you are.

Only one problem. I am the person who is correct about the workings of power steering, and krw is wrong, but insistent that _he_ is correct. I call that narcissistic ignorance. He's of the same crowd who shout down speakers they don't agree with.

Look in the mirror! I just can't believe that professionals act the way you guys do in this group. All of you have given this group a reputation for rudeness, stupidity and intolerance. All you have to do is look at yourself with the same judgmental view you look at everyone else. What exactly is the "do-not-help" list? Does that mean you are threatening me with ignoring my posts? How about you ignore krw and the rest instead?

Obviously I am wasting my time. Larkin is incredibly far beyond redemption, krw is just psycho. You and Sloman seem almost normal, but just can't stop this aberrant behavior. There has got to be someone, somewhere working on a PhD about this sort of compulsion. I really shouldn't be bothering with it all, but it is a slow night and I don't have anything else to do.

BTW, AKM has proven to me that their parts should never be designed into a board. I have been told that I should be happy with a 14 week lead time. LOL Meanwhile a major assembly house who wants my card is helping me find parts so I can build it more quickly. Too bad they screwed up and didn't release the PO for TWO MONTHS after they knew they needed my boards!!!
