TI has wrecked their web site

Yeah, but you and me date from the days when an ISAM library was a database, and when we got started on computers the filesystem was an optional software component :-).

Then along come these Oracle dweebs who honestly believe that if it's not Oracle, it's not a database. It makes me want to scream. These guys can write SQL all day long with stored procedures on joined databases but they honestly have no clue of key-value relationships. I have never ever seen such single-minded devotion to a single brand of crap. Even in the days of "you can't get fired for buying IBM" (yes I'm dating myself, and although I don't classify myself as an IT guy I butt heads with them every day) it wasn't that bad.

At least California's Governor did prove that yes, indeed, you *can* get fired for buying Oracle!

Yeah, my shorts are too tight and Oracle dweebs piss me off every single day.

Tim.

Hello Graham,

Can't speak for Jim but I guess it's similar. The three most important parameters for me are:

  1. Reliability
  2. Reliability
  3. Reliability

Same as the location thing in real estate.

Well, yes there's a lot to be said for that but I've noted cars differ in other ways that are also very important.

A friend of mine bought a recent(ish) VW Passat on recommendation but couldn't live with it since the seats wrecked his back. I'm surprised to be honest but there you go. I've also been in cars ( both Fords btw ) which were also painful to sit in for extended periods - one gave back ache - the other leg ache - both due to poor support. I'm pleased to say that Saab ( my current drive ) seats are amongst the very best.

My all time favorite car seats were the bucket seats GM used in the '66 GTO. I liked them so much that I installed on in the '73 Chevy Stepvan that I used as a service truck when I did industrial electronics, and commercial sound systems. I drove that truck to Florida several times, straight through. About 18 hours and although I was tired from the drive, I felt fine. It was wide enough that you could move around some. That helps maintain the circulation in your lower body and legs, which adds a lot to your comfort and safety on long trips.
