Hi there. Long time no post for me. Is this group is still alive? It seems to be alive with a quick look at the post history. I'm pretty sure many of the Gurus who used to hang around here have moved because of spam and I know there are people who wouldn't subscribe to a forum if their life depended on it.
Can some of the gurus who are still around suggest some good electronics forums that are highly active and can be considered an alternative to sci.electronics?
Initially use both for a given question and determine which is better for that particular subject matter. For example, how many "free" apertures does one get for a standard PCB stencil, and why does the cost seem to go up exponentially for more apertures? You may have to hunt around to find a "proper" forum, but here one has access to a very wide range of expertise. Shoot, my question here may even be answered here, despite the fact this is not a formal, separate posting.
The group seems to be doing fine. Lots of off topic BS, but still better than the forums.

Usenet may be reflected and plagarised on various web forums often with loads of adverts but it dates back to the beginnings of the Internet.
A quick google search for postings in this groups shows that content here is typically grabbed by about half a dozen parasitic forum sites.

What's impressive is that our posts get Google indexed from those copycat sites in not many minutes. You can post some distinct set of nonsense words and then search for them. Chicken-fried reflex klystron, maybe.

No thanks. I'm not sure whether it's the grease or the RF, but it gives me terrible heartburn.
At least one web forum seems to get most of its content by simply auto-copying posts from here. It's a great business model - let other people generate free content with value.
Auto-copying won't generate any value. Selective copying - leaving out the spam and the off-topic politics - would generate value.
Does anybody do that? Hell, I could do it, and I've even got a web- site where I could post the output, but the process isn't one-click.

Let's start saying really bad things about their sponsors.
There's a viable business model if you are willing to hand filter the posts for a while and train a Baysian filter. Eventually, it would get good enough to identify off-topic crap like politics and reject those articles or threads.
The side effect would be a listing of on/off topic posts by user. You could sell that back to the newsgroup for use in their newsreaders' filters.
