I'm working on that fancy stabilized laser, which has a lot of temperature control and refrigeration issues, so heat conduction is on my mind these days.
It's quite pretty, actually--if you have a half-space of some material with a sinusoidal thermal input on the surface, the temperature inside goes as
T(z,t) = exp(I omega t) exp(-(1+j)sqrt(omega/(2*kappa)) z)
where kappa is the thermal diffusivity,
kappa = alpha/(rho c_P),
rho is the mass density, and c_P is the specific heat at constant pressure.
The one-radian-per-factor-of-e rule comes straight out of the (1+j) in the exponential, and it's a really helpful rule of thumb in all sorts of thermal diffusion situations.

He certainly lacks engineering knowledge. I've often wondered if Phil Allison is just a bot of sorts. You know, a program that posts some non sequitur text to make it appear as if the poster knows some design, the follows up with the f*ck off stuff.
I think there would be some effect*, but I agree only at the lowest frequencies, and if measurable it would only be slight and a lot of other sources of distortion would be more important.
*(assuming some class B operation) as the chip in the output transistor and the driver transistor heat (low frequency only) the Vbe and Hfe change and that has to have some effect. I think Self is wrong if what he intends to say there is *no* such effect in discrete-component power amplifiers. If his intent is to say it is essentially irrelevant in discrete-component power amplifiers, I don't think anyone would object.BTW (for PA) "
