Texas comes into the 21 century

Fields and Thompson and TinyProng keep going personal in technical threads. None of them seem to know much about modern electronics.

Now you are going technical in a personal thread. Good work.

On my last flight I noticed they do it on seat numbers in airlines too (Lufthansa anyway). No row 13 :)

Two of my college rooms were number 13's. Not being superstitious has it's advantages since you get a better room that others will not touch.

Other cultures have different superstitiously avoided numbers like 4 in Japan and China where it is associated and homophonous with death. Consequently crockery and cutlery sets come in sets of 5 in Japan. (not sure what they do in China as 5 isn't all that good there)

Thunderbird has skipped version 4. Although whether that is because they didn't want to upset Japanese users or avoid an aquatic yellow plastic version is an open question. Space stations are so much cooler.

Not all airlines, nor all buildings, skip the number 13.

Then there's '666'.

Wasn't FF4 beta only; when they released it, it went to 5.0?

You said "say what it is for". I did. Just because you were not in the forest to hear the tree fall does not mean it did not fall, nor that there was no sound. I said it, and you just didn't hear it. "Now maybe had you said write what it is for." But you said "say". So I did, and you AGAIN are calling me a liar, and you claim that what John Fields says about you isn't true? You are full of it, chucko!

!. What is the one thing the military demands that a product do?

  1. What is the one thing that a self oscillator sometimes wants to do that violates rule number 1?
  2. You lose... again.

I remebered another one. The UK Vehicle Licensing Authority used to let you pay extra to get special ("cherished") combinations of characters on your license plate. Mine might be J1 DEV, J2 DEV etc,

"How about J69 DEV ha ha"

"Yeah we don't do those sir cause it's rude"

Actually it was a secondary market in already issued historic plates (not by the DVLA) some worth $$$$ . DVLA only caught on to the potential value of new cherished plates in the last decade or so.

Some of the better ancient plates floating about are "ANY 1", "RU 12", "B10 CAR" and "HNO3". Modern ones are of the form AA[0,5]dAAA and you can buy "cherished" plates direct from DVLA if so inclined.

Our UK number plates are very boring, but it makes ANPR a doddle.

This was about 15 years ago. I think it must have been the DVLA or related official body, since while the single digits in the example above were "gone" you could choose pretty much *any* digit pair. Except the aforementioned "69" apparently.

Yeah no "LA LAW" for us.
