Re: OT: What are the chances of this getting through?

Untrue; we STILL have it. Blacks, Irish, whites, kids. You name it.

*Most* countries in the world in fact have been involved with slavery at some point in time going back into antiquity. Funny how today only the trade in slaves brought from Africa is regarded as noteworthy and deserving of infinite re-telling.

Probably keeps being re-told because about a quarter of the US population still seems pretty annoyed that slavery ever ended, you can find those people flying Confederate flags and campaigning to not have statues of Robert E. Lee and other huge traitors torn right down as they should have been ages ago.

The rest of the United States was frankly generous to let them have their little memorials to the dream of operating a slave-trading sovereign nation on the American continent, persisting into the 20th century, as long as they did. that dream died with Sherman's march to the sea.
