So do I, but the whiners don't seem to think it's a long term career. I really think thet it's not somethign to do to make money. The money is there, but only for the ones who are really engineers. As others have said here, engineers are born, not created from books.

That certianly didn't happen here. Those who were on projects that were abandoned were laid off. Those on "golden projects" weren't. It really was that simple. There were a *ton* of great analog circuit design engineers laid off. They didn't draw unemployment for long though. AIUI, AD opened a design shop in town and hired the bunch. Others weren't so lucky though.

I'd still call those areas suburban. What I meant was places that some people who got fed up with CA taxes and cost of living have moved to. Arkansas, Idaho, Montana. If the next Costco is a 2hrs plus drive away and the number of terrestrial TV channels drops below three it kind of begins to be remote ;-)

I was born a 4th generation Californian to poor parents and earned every penny painfully over a long hard work life. I didn't even come to New England until my 22nd year. Elite, slemeete! Keith's stupid mud-slinging "blue-blood" pejorative (whatever that means), and the asinine "limousine liberal" smear (invented by New York tightwads to win an election, and dishonestly applied to me), is a good example of the lying habits of the new far right wing, as they seek to perform a character assassination on every person who steps forward to condemn their idiotic revered leader, George W Bush - the polls say over 60% of us in the U.S. disapprove of Bush! My true character is revealed in the over 10,000 posts I've made over 10 years on s.e.d., and those who have read many of them know the personal attacks against me for the lying stinking P.O.S. they are. If it wasn't for my well-known antipathy for GWB, the intensely-ugly lies, smears, and character assassinations I've endured in the last year would not have happened. What does that say about those who engage in it? This isn't about my character, which was well received for 9 years, it's about silencing my message. Yeah, I sometimes feel like a carpetbagger. One topic of conversation around here is "and where are *you* from?"

Some people do get depressed by the fog; something about needing light on their pineal gland or whatever. I soaked up enough heat and light in New Orleans to last me a lifetime, so I love the fog. We live high in Glen Park, almost Diamond Heights, and the river-o-fog in the gap is often beautiful.

I share most of Win's sentiments that I've seen in the little time I've looked at this newsgroup. The farthest East I've ever lived is East Tennessee where I was born. The rest of the time has been (mostly) Oregon/Washington with a small amount of time in California.

And the closest I've ever been to "blue-nosed" is driving by particular neighborhoods. East Tennessee (Smoky Mountains) doesn't have much truck with such.

Find some other simplification to hang your trash on.

Well- Win tongue-in-cheek did state "No, anyone who's anyone lives here, but we already have good jobs." I thought only New Yorkers thought that, and everything is so interconnected these days, it doesn't matter where you live.
