Why? Just because physics world thinks the major application is cancer research and the herald sun doesn't mention cancer research and thinks the major applications are fiber optic connection into you brain and sharks with frickin lasers attached to their heads;)
Bet it wasn't alive long afterwards. Besides, pulsed lasers aren't only alive, they're evil geniuses--otherwise they wouldn't find so many peculiar ways to fail at the worst possible time.
