Usually, they try to get you to run the event viewer, and then represent that the stuff you find in there is evidence of malware.

Almost endless fun can be had by inventing spurious errors that occur when you purportedly use the various proposed ways of starting the event viewer.

Even "You really don't want to run that program" failed to wise the guy up.
