The aim of a President should be to maxmize benefits for the people who he represents, in DTs case the citizens of the USA.

Europe seems to be coming around to the idea that their politicians should behave similarly.

Bows and arrows are cheap, but not all that effective.

The people who chose them don't last long in combat situations.

In classical Greek armies, the armored infantry-men were the citizens who were rich enough to afford bronze armor. If you were less well off you carried a bow into combat, and had to run away if somebody with good armor and a sword or spear came after you. Tactics was all about using you heavy infantry to protect your archer and slingers - and later on - your catapults.

Happily, you weren't around to make the choice for WW1 and WW2, and you weren't actually of voting age when the US decided to set up the Iron curtain.

You seem happy enough with Trump so you probably wouldn't have minded the sort of regime you would have ended up with if your isolationists had been more persuasive.

What's interesting to me is that so many countries want to buy F35's.

To give some background to CM be resigned his post as ambassador to Uzbekistan when he failed to persuade his UK Foreign Office superiors to object to the CIA extraordinary rendition program running there, which entailed the CIA transporting people to the country in order to have them tortured and murdered - including using such barbaric methods as boiling them alive. Upon resigning CM became a whistleblower and suffered the consequeces of that action. Consequently, his allegations have been proven to be accurate in all respects.

And who bribes the buyers to get them to prefer F-35's? Non-American politicians are well aware that buying US weapons makes America politicians happy. Larger contributions to the election expenses of the US politicians from the US weapons manufacturers does seem to come into that.

Donald Trump may claim this. More objective observers beg to differ.

So why did Trump buy into the "Iran thing" in the first place?

Trump isn't stupid, but doesn't know nearly as much as he needs to know, and he doesn't like listening to people who tell him what he needs to know - he has to sit still for too long.

The US economy is a very complicated mechanism,

and Donald Trump does have strong preference for clear and simple solutions.

The US is a decidedly imperfect democracy, and Trump can only get thrown out of power before the end of his term if he is successfully impeached. He was impeached twice during his first term and the imperfections in the US quasi-democratic system meant that the US senate wouldn't even look at the evidence that the house of Representatives had assembled.

If the Republicans lose badly enough in the incipient mid-term elections he may eventually get thrown out.

But the government has ways of discouraging expressions of popular opinion. It take a lot of organisation to create a popular outcry on a scale that the government can't repress.

Ariane has been launched for decades from Guiana which is French soil.

However Isar are launching the first orbital rocket from *continental Europe*, ie ignoring European countries launches in other parts of the world (eg the UK's Black Arrow launched from Australia).

Russia's launches are/were (I think) all 'east of the Ural mountains' which is typically the border between European and Asian Russia, so they don't count as continental Europe.

Iran trying to make nukes again was Trump's fault: *He* tore up the Iran nuclear deal. DT doesn't stop claiming how bad a deal it was, but what he got us into is worse. Much worse.

Obama negotiated a deal with Iran which meant that they weren't going to enrich uranium to weapons grade. Trump cancelled it.

He's obviously not seriously worried by the prospect of an Iranian nuclear attack. He wouldn't have joined Isreal in killing some 40 to 48 of their senior politicians if he thought that it was a real prospect.

Do try to come up with faintly plausible nonsense.

In Terry Pratchetts' Disc World SF book series there is a continent where politicians are jailed immediately after elections as a preventive measure in order not to loose time. The Prime Minister runs his government work directly from his cell.
