OT: Presbyopia, or "Old Guy Eyes"

Well, I've had "old guy eyes" for about a decade - I was just kind of surprised that suddenly I was reading my computer screen without the cheaters.

No.

Well, my older brother, who just turned 66 or 67 or whatever, has some medical problems, but he's also grossly overweight.

I'm hard-pressed to keep 165 lbs of meat on my bony frame. ;-)

I've got an appointment next Tuesday to look at my possibly malignant wart, and Wednesday to check on the vision thing. Assuming I live that long. ;-)

Of course you know that the way I blabber on, I'll keep everybody informed of every intimate little detail. ;-)

I just sent in my Hemoccult kit a few days ago, for example. ;-)

Cheers! Rich

That sounds like welfare for pot heads?

It has been rather silly that the government will allow research on drugs that have much more effect on the mind/body than marijuana, and not allow research on marijuana. Millions of Americans have used marijuana and we have little real research on any possible benefits* of it or of any of it's derivatives.

In about six thousand years of research, both formal and informal, there has never been one single report of any adverse effects from marijuana.

Yeah, so? You have a Creator-given right to do whatever you want to, as long as you don't infringe anyone else's right to do so.

The Reefer Madness crowd hate the $^!#^ out of pot because it makes you peaceful, and they're addicted to warmaking.

Thanks, Rich

Ok, how about "It's always darkest before the end of the world."

You're welcome. ;-)

An OD can test for anything that an ophthalmologist is likely to test for out of the box. If there is anything amiss either will forward you to a specialist.

I was told that about 17 years ago, then a few years later needed glasses again, latest optometrist says there's no sign of forming cataracts?

Currently I've got almost close up pair and soldering or fine work very close up pair -- I couldn't stand bifocals, kept trying to focus on or through the 'blur' line, until I had an eyestrain headache.

I'm very careful now to wear proper UV sunglasses went outside in the sun to stop or reduce further cataract type damage.

again,

It took me about a week to get used to the line, though I only use glasses for reading. My first pair of prescription glasses were bifocals. I wouldn't be without them now.

I don't wear sun glasses. I keep losing them, but I don't spend a lot of time outside in the sun.

again,

Line? Get bi-focal contacts! I've worn them for years, and the are fantastic.

I do wear them when I can, too, more for comfort than protection. (not saying that you don't need protection...) I keep a pair in each car, and a pair on the counter by the back door.

again,

Yes.

No way! I suppose I could get over sticking my fingers in my eyes, but I can't imagine taking contacts out every time I want to look up.

I've tried that. They get so scratched up it's not worth it.

Heh, I have a ham radio book (c)1957 which recommends buying the bigger soldering iron as it could be useful in the household. It also has a lot of interesting statements like "the main drawback of transistors is that they can't be used for the high frequency amplification"

So, what's the future? Programmable analog arrays? Billion gate FPGAs? Thousand core processors? Semicustom mixed-signal chips with 2-week delivery, like PC boards are today? HDL for everything, even analog designs? Something totally different?
