OT: effects of gun control

It wasn't for use inside the house. There were several pistols, as well.

That is exactly what I was trying to tell :)

Another common mistake is that people think a shotgun sprays the shot load in a wide pattern so it impossible to miss with it. They probably never tried to shoot at a paper target at close range. A single shot busts that myth very effectively. Judging from my own experience most of them got very surprised when they see an accurate 1-2 inch hole left by #8 bird shot...

I used to hunt and shoot a fair amount of skeet as a kid. When I was in college I was on the pistol team. If you carry a shotgun vertical until you fire it, maneuvering is not a problem. And recoil is less of a problem than with a pistol. You have the shotgun held with two hands and against your shoulder. And the stock has a recoil pad. So with a pump shotgun you can get several aimed shots quicker that with a pistol. Even with an automatic you can get more aimed shots off faster than with a pistol. I never noticed any kick when hunting. No noticeable kick when shooting skeet as you are shooting reduced loads.

I agree with you that shot does not expand much at short range. That is a friend used to shoot the head off birds at close range.

I doubt if anything I say will convince you, so recommend you do some skeet shooting. It is fun and it will improve your shooting at moving targets.

Enough off topic stuff for now.

Kinda an odd thing to discuss in an investment newsletter...

The restrictions listed are overly onerous, although I suspect that #2:

...is actually a boon to gun clubs: My approach to finding those four character witnesses (if I'd just moved to Long Island) would be to join the local gun club, show up every week for practice shoots (there's always someone who'll be more than happy to loan you their handgun -- particularly if you're offering to buy their ammunition as well as your own), get to know the guys, etc., and within a handful of months you've probably got your four character witnesses.
