OT: Ebay Shill Bidding

Buying a used metcal is a stupid move.

They get problematic, especially if they came from a production environment where they are left on all day, and get a lot of tip insertions cycling through it.

The $200 or so you would pay for a new one is well worth it, considering the warranty given, and the fact that it is NEW!

You guys pick some dumb things to try to find a bargain on.

But they do care about the final price.

What! The MX-500P-11 we like goes for $455 new (if you can find it), $200 is my getting-outbid level at eBay! Sheesh! As for reliability, we've gotten six on eBay so far, only one had a problem when it arrived, the rest have worked year after year. They just develop legs and walk to other labs, and that's why we need a few replacements.

I'd be attaching a Lo Jack inside them then. At least an active rfid or such. Certain assets are worth knowing where they are.

PS The Lo Jack thing is not available for such small, untitled things.

I was getting $1500 6.5 digit HP meters for $150 bucks, you should be able to find those items cheaper than that. Otherwise, one might as well buy the new item.

Everybody who has said to decide what your maximum bid is and place it during the last 5 seconds or so has it right. You don't necessarily have to pay the maximum bid, unless someone else was somewhat close (but less than) what you bid. I should know - in the last year alone, I've spent over $40K buying defective test equipment for repair and resale. I get what I want for the price I'm willing to pay.

Apparently, you know f*ck-all about how Ebay works, and from most, if not all of your posts I've had the misfortune of reading, you know f*ck-all about everything else as well.

Why don't you just admit you're wrong, Dum-Dum?

So why do you feed the troll?

I have to puzzle over troll feeders and why you waste everyone's time replying to such obnoxious jerks. Are you lacking a person with which to pleasantly correspond? Or do you troll feed just to develop some minutia of an ego trip?

Why should one assume that someone is a troll just because they're obnoxious and apparently wrong?

The accusation of being a troll is itself a much abused debating technique. I get accused of being a troll quite a lot (despite not resorting to abuse). Some people don't like the way I think.

Perhaps for you but not for all. But aren't you AlwaysWrong?

I picked up the MX-500P power supply on eBay in January for $54 plus $15 shipping. Works fine. Of the 8 or 9 various Metcal power supplies I bought, one was bad but only needed an IRF130 to restore it. That unit cost $10 and was a local pickup so there was no shipping.

Kinda like putting it out by the street with a $10 sign on it. ;-)

If you do that in San Diego, dimbulb will steal it.
