OT: Create folders/groupings under Win7 "New" context menu

I can see how to add/remove items from the New context menu. But, I can't see any way of grouping them (to reduce the number of top-level entries).

Any pointers?

I had my files organized into groups once and had to figure out how to turn that off. I it's in the View menu under "Current View". Select the parameter to group by. Select (none) to turn it off.

(sigh) Apparently, this is hardwired as a single-level menu, dynamically constructed, in Explorer.

There are some hacks that can give me the functionality that I'd like -- but, would essentially remove the built-in functionality of "New" (yet without removing it from the context menu!) and force me to keep revising that solution each time an app wants to augment the genuine "New" menu.

Ain't gonna happen.

[ISTR this was different in W3.1 days -- implemented in a branch of the filesystem? But, I'm not curious enough to build a W3.1 machine just to check!]
