Learn to read, Fred. I said I'm _going_ to write a column. For those slow-of-wit that means the column has NOT been written yet ;-)
But I agree with your very last sentence... but it won't happen, cowardice has taken over the US :-(

never trust an obese health professional. If they are unable to look after themselves, what makes them think they can look after anyone else.
A similar argument applies to social workers with "issues"
Cheers Terry
I read somewhere that a certain proportion of shrinks get into the biz because they have their own demons to deal with.
Best regards, Spehro Pefhany
Yep. The majority of RN's seem to be morbidly obese :-(

Most of the nurses on my wife's ward are exactly that.
There are, however, no fat doctors. Nor any that smoke.
Cheers Terry
Hi Speff,
I had a friend at Uni who wanted to be a vet. turns out you have to pass at least one 1st year paper to geth thru.... she tried business studies, technology, arts, then finally social work, where she went from straight F's to A's. I used to hang out with her a lot, but her SW friends were major losers, ALL of whom had seriously dysfunctional lives, replete with abuse, breakdowns, addiction, suicidal tendencies etc (Cathy was the only sane one, albeit fairly thick). And they ALL passed, and went on to rule the lives of those "less fortunate". Scary.
Cheers Terry
Oh, hell: "social workers" and other "counselors" and stuff are the sickest of the lot.
They devote their lives to "fixing" other people so that they don't have to look at themselves.
Cheers! Rich
Welcome to the world.
My mother used to do that work. She divided the women into two groups, those who needed a vicious divorce lawyer (she referred them to hers) and those who needed a trip to "the happiest place on earth" -- where they had the drugs to make it so, and the straight jackets for those who needed even more help!
That's my rule for cooks: if you want to know what their food will do to you, look at the cook.
Then there's the "shopping cart game." Find some spry, cheerful older person in the grocery store, and see what's in their cart. Or, check out some poor wreck, old before their time.
A pattern quickly appears...and it ain't rocket science.
Best, James Arthur
I like it! I'll keep my eyes peeled when I'm shopping from now on; I'm pretty sure I know what I'll see though...
Cheers Terry
I'm a "spry, cheerful older person". My cart is always filled with wine ;-)
(My wife buys all the veggies ;-)

I think the trick is to avoid pre-fabricated foods; only eat things that are, or very recently were, alive. That, and stay the hell away from nasty chemicals.
Insofar (ya gotta love that word) wine is concerned, I'd rather drink a nice black beer. But my wife loves wine ;)
Cheers Terry
My last VA doctor was well over 300 pounds. She had to watch out when going through the 40" doorways in the local VA clinic.
Last Saturday my wife had a bunch of her Girl Scout executive buddies over for Chinese New Year... homemade beef and broccoli, etc.
Since women are always wont to be nosy, they were astonished at the lack of pre-fab food in my wife's pantry. The only canned goods there are tomato sauce, tomato paste, and my sardines and kippers ;-)

That is contrary to my experience. Perhaps it is VA Nurses that have that problem.
