new type of "hybrid" car system?

Noo boy do you ever have it backwards.

If mass transist users had to pay their fair share of the cost of the systems they use, almost everybody would be forced to use personal vehicle transport, which makes far more efficient use of the money invested.

Mass transit is an obsolete and costly scam, plain and simple.

What sort of Gas do they use? We use petrol - you'll find it's much better.

Well you asked for it, so "flame on" ...

Greenies should be burned only after something much more unpleasant has been done to people who think it is their "god given right" to burn precious petrochemicals by blazing across the desert at 100 mph.

You think it's unfair of the arabs to be living on top of all our oil? Move to china. I hear the government subsidizes gas there ... costs about $1.05 per gallon.

I'm paying about $3.05 in NY for gas these days and that's cheap considering we're spending about 3.5 billion a month in Iraq. Oh and please don't tell me we're there to bring them democracy. If they had no oil we'd have about as many troops there as we have in Sudan.

And if you think you have a "god given right" to foul my air with exhaust, well I still have 2nd amendment rights granted by the constitution.

Speaking of buried costs: the US has lost, as of today, 2388 soldeirs in Iraq. Do you really believe we wouldn't be there if they had no oil?

Judging by the utter and monumental stupidity in Washington, probably.

About 10% of the loss in single battles during the Civil War.

Yes. But if the Middle East went away we'd open Alaska in a blink. I'm hoping that Israel solves the problem ;-)

You seem to ignore the fact that mass transit only serves selected locations and routes.

For that specific task it's very good. For any other journey it's utterly useless. Hence personal transport will continue to be needed in any economy where mobility of labour is required.

It IS my gawd-given right. Want to come out here and challenge me to a duel to settle the question ?:-)

I do not. I'd prefer we used our own gawd-damn oil and let the A-Rab some-bitches drown in it.

Anyone that lives in NY deserves it ;-)

You obviously haven't been following the news today, have you?

OH BULL SHIT! I've been in the automotive business for nearly 45 years. Emissions are now so clean even YOU can't commit suicide... though you should try ;-)

In the UK, taxation of motor vehicles far exceeds the cost of highway maintenance and building. Motorists would rejoice at the idea of those taxes being used specifically for that task.

It is nevertheless an excellent way of transporting large number of ppl effectively on heavily congested routes.

I would hate to *have* to drive into London instead of being able to 'let the train take the strain'.

I can't even begin to imagine of an effective alternative to the London Underground system either.

Horse for courses would be my comment.

The average road I prefer to travel on has a peak crunch time rush hour traffic of three vehicles per year.

What would your mass transit cost to service these routes?

In heavily congested cities, such as on the east coast of the USA.

NOT in the west, where "mass" transit is an abysmal failure.

I superimposed Manhattan up to the Bronx over my suburban area of Phoenix/Chandler... covered exactly 180K people ;-)

Thank gawd, the whole world is NOT like London, New York or Tokyo.

It does in most of the US also.

Unfortunately, the highway funds often get raided to support other programs.

This is especially true in California.

In Arizona it's stolen for "light rail".

But, around here, we tend to punish politicians who try that crap... there's going to be a bunch un-elected in November.

It seems you don't have enough of it to satisfy the US demand for all those big engined V8 4x4s though.

Utter nonsense.

About 15 minutes standing by the side of any freeway in the US is long enough to see what the real mix of vehicles is, and it isn't dominated by V8 anythings.

For every beehive city like London, New York City, and Tokyo, there are thousands upon thousands of cities where mass transit just doesn't work.

Maybe that's why mass transit is a success in the beehives and a total disaster eleswhere.
