need a USB WebCam using on Windows XP or later

need highest NATIVE resolution. (at least 5M Pixels) need auto focus need best sensor (some I have seen produce poor color images).

for taking stills. video and audio are not as important.

Suggestions please.

P.S. sorry for crosspost. I tried Multipost but my MesNews would not work with the AIOE server.

I have not found a webcam with a 5 m pixel sensor. The best I have found is Rocketfish. They quit selling webcams but you can find some

2 and 3 m pixel webcam by Rocketfish on ebay. They are autofocus.

If you do find a webcam with a 5 m pixel sensor please post where you found it.

If you are taking stills, you can get a point and shoot. High end DSLRs use usb for studio work. I would guess a high end point and shoot will do the same.

The only 5Mpixel webcames I've seen are IP (ethernet).

Does webcam mean cheap ??

What is your price limit ?

Seems most of the "take pictures" digital cameras have >5Mpix, autofocus, and good color balance. With an AV to micro USB adapter cable, one has the pictures; try pressing "disp" to get rid of the icons and you have a nice HQ camera.

BeeJ presented the following explanation :

WebCams inherently do what I want but MS does not provide drivers for software development that handle more than 640x480 and manufacturers do not provide a SDK.

So far all say that point and shoots do not have live export of image or control.

Only high end cams like Nikon have these features but the software is an additional $180.

Recently Canon T3 $499 was said to do this but I cannot find any corroborating evidence. Anybody know anything about this one?
