IQ demodulator specifications

Hi All,



What is the meaning of "operation LO power 10 +/- 0.5 dBm" on the data sheet of a minicircuits I&Q demodulator (MIQC-60WD)? What would be the result of using a LO power 1dB off, say 11 dBm?

For "proper" operation (meaning, the part behaves according to the data sheet specs), you should feed in an LO signal with an amplitude (and I use that word loosely) of between 9.5 and 10.5dBm.

Not much. If you crank it up too far you could damage the part (potentially at the data sheet's "maximum rating" of 50mW = 17dBm), but that 10dBm number is really there to (1) suggest a "reasonable" point for you to operate it at and (2) provide for reference for their own guaranteed data.

If you give it less than 10dBm, the conversion loss will initially degrade some as will the compression point... and eventually you'll hit a "knee" where the thing completely falls apart and doesn't work at all as intended.
