Hi all I am Vikram varshney, student of Delhi College of Engineering. I am working on a project for making a hardwired drive to convert 240V,6A AC to 5V,5mA DC . I am not able to find a proper circuit for the same. Please suggest me any solution of alternative.

What do you mean by hardwired?
Do you mean a power supply rather than drive?
This sounds like project #1 in a basic electronics lab class. It was in mine. We had to include a discrete component series regulator (power transistor, zener and a couple of Rs).
This brought back a funny memory. Most of the students picked up their kit of components and pounded some nails in a board to do point-to-point wiring. But coincidentally, I needed a 15 Vdc supply for some other work. I took the time to pick up a nice looking project box, pilot light, switch, panel jacks, etc. When I showed it to the instructor for my grade, he accused me of buying the thing ready made. I had to pop it open to show him my work. But I got an A. It might still be wandering around my shop.
What year, if you don't mind my asking?
In my first electronics lab (1989) we already had regular "bench" power supplies.
On the other hand, the first power electronics lab I took where you
*constructed* your own transformer from the cores they had available -- and then slowly watched its performance as you ramped up a VARIAC to 120V -- *that* was fun. Especially after you shorted the secondary to measure the mutual inductance... BUZZZZZZZ... those were some rather angry cores... (we didn't ramp the VARIACS to 120V with the secondaries shorted, though -- nowhere near that :-) ).

We had them as well. The point of the exercise was to build one of our own.
He cheated. He used a couple electric eels.
BTW, did you know that Jim's first patent was for banging two rocks together to start a fire? His second patenet was for a stone knife to skin dinosaurs to make loincloths. ;-)
