I worked 2 college summers with an electrician who tested circuits with his fingers. He laughed when he got a hot one. He especially "liked" 440 v.
I don't know if it matters, but he had been injured in WW2 and his face repaired with plastic surgery, including a glass eye. He would drink peppermint schnapps out of his lunch pail during the day and pop his eye out to freak out the rest of us after he had had enough.

Drive the WW-II tank with diesel engine; there is nothing electrical inside. It would provide reasonably good EM protection in all bands. You don't have to worry about the street crossings either.

MacGyver method: Hold an AM radio nearby and write down the frequencies where the harmonics show up. Then enter into Excel and do a high-faluting super scientific statistical analysis to calculate the fundamental. Or just eyeball it :-)
In my 20s i could tell you voltage 120/208/240 and frequency 60/400. Thank goodness i got bored with it.

In my teens, before I could afford a multimeter and I felt that the price of a neon tester was better spent on a part, I used to test circuits with my fingers too. It also came in useful to see if the mains plug of my transformerless tube amps were plugged in the right way. I'd often instinctively wet the tester finger too. We use 230V/50Hz here.
An acquaintance of long ago could twist live wires together with bare hands without insulating himself from the floor. I never found out if he felt anything. He must have, but it's not surprising that some people with dry skin and work-hardened hands are less sensitive than others.
A scope would work. Just clip the probe ground back to the tip to make a 1-turn loop.
It occurred to me once when I was a youngster that you could use a tunnel-diode oscillator as a high-ratio microwave frequency divider, but you wouldn't know the division ratio. Vary the bias to sort of randomly frob the ratio, make a bunch of measurements, and do the math to figure out what numbers make sense.

You guys had access to a lot of good stuff that us guys could only marvel at in the hobby electronics books. I've never had the chance to lay my hands on a tunnel diode, they were financially way out of league for a highschool student in Europe back then.
Careful. I knew a guy who developed heart arrhythmias after doing that for a while.
This is real, not a joke: An engineer I used to work with was electrician when young. He's a short guy and said this was very practical. While working on a live panel he'd always stand on an inverted plastic bucket. When he got a real zinger the shakes would make the bucket tip over and he'd fall to safety.
Maybe you could fix the missing awk code on that page?
