Has anyone tried DipTrace? Free 250 pin version.

Looks a bit fresher than EagleCad or WinQCad.

Heh. That's a good one. Now tell me the one about FoxNews being "fair and balanced".

A long time ago (maybe a year or 2) i tried it and i liked a lot about its interface and the way one could make a new part layout (SOT-6 modified to different size so result wold not be called SOT-6; do not remember the callout). But what i did not like (for that version) was i had to use the highest magnification (10,000 if i remember correctly). That should have been easy by selecting a scale factor rather than "magnifying" again and again to get near what one needed. Put it on the shelf after that and forgot about it.

...but the OP doesn't. ...and it's EAGLE.

...and EAGLE has become a steaming pile of DRM that can lock you out of your work product:

KiCAD runs under any OS (I even saw a page with Solaris port). It is GPL'd (gratis and libre).

This contains a very old Windoze port of gEDA:

(The "linux" in the URL is bogus.)

gEDA doesn't provide Windoze binaries any more but you can build it yourself using an available script.

gEDA is also GPL'd.

TinyCAD+FreePCB is another GPL'd option.

Giving money for ECAD software is only for the very demanding. The OP appears to be a hobbyist.
