FR4 thermal calcs sanity check

Oct 08, 2013 5 Replies

I calculated that the temperature difference across a 1" square piece of

1/16 thick FR4 is about 8C/W.

Does that seem reasonable?

I meant to include the thermal conductivity that I found at

which gives about .31 W/(m-K).

Sorry for the omission.

Yup, using your 'later' number I get ~8.33C/W

That's about right. Vias can help.

Thanks, George. Confirmation really helps!

Yes. I wanted to start with nothing else considered so I can improve as I go. Many thanks.
