In other words, "desire", especially for the "forbidden fruit." It's strictly a religious thing - don't have desire, just accept what the authorities deign to give you, and shuddupaboutit!

Why is it that so many people pay lip service to Christ, and then go out and do the opposite of what he was trying to teach?

For example, in which chapter and verse did Jesus tell his followers to go and murder and torture non-Xtians?

Poor people don't spend money on big ticket items ... if you let them off for food and housing they won't make any contribution of any significance.

Ultra wealthy can put money off shore and expenditures will never get recorded here.

A federal sales tax is never going to cut it.

It=92s not about paying less, (a typical family of four with a mortgage and income of 70K pay next to nothing for federal taxes ... don't take my word for it, do your own cal). The top 5% of the wage earners in the US pay almost 50% of the taxes.

I=92m sick of it and I=92m sure true fiscal conservatives and folks who truly believe in personal responsibility and accountability would expect the load to be spread to all Americans.

That's what should define libs from true fiscal conservatives and personal responsibility folks.

Well, people probably don't buy Lamborghinis, or yachts, or $150,000 diamond necklsces or $4,000,000.00 paintings on the "underground economy."

Police and fire? Simple. If you burn your house down or let yourself get victimized, just pay for the cost of your rescue. Of course, if you have the wherewithal to see to your own personal well-being, you'll have to bear the cost of your ammunition. ;-)

There aren't that many sold. Taxes don't come from a few big transactions, they come from the nickle and dime day to day stuff. You'd never make it as a tax and spend politician.

Actually, in my mind one of the fundamental tenants of engineering is that you're trying to "do more with less," that is, explicitly increasing the goods or services provided with a given amount of resources. I.e., many a good engineer should be an obvious example that the economy is *not* a zero-sum game: Engineers are constantly improving the performance of widgets while not increasing or reducing the resources needed to create them -- e.g., PCs, cars, the cotton gin, etc.
