embedded digital video recording??

i've been looking for a small and lightweight device that will take video in and write to, say, a 1GB compactflash card or sd card for long record times. it would basically be a stripped down solid state camcorders without camera or screen.

has anyone seen something like this? do "modules" exist to build one? i figure i'd need something like video adc, mpeg, uP, memory device.

i know the memory device module exists:

i'm reading up about video chips on the maxim-ic.com site; lots of good stuff there.

what i don't know about is if mpeg X (1/2/4?) encoder chips/modules exist.

anyway, thanks for any pointers.

DV is about 25mb/sec, so you will be pushed for power, but if you go uncompressed it will be about 270mb/sec. probably easy to go this way
