I watch for that kind of thing all the time, and if the driver shows no signs of response, pump the brakes or activate the emergency flashers, and then as a final resort floor the car out of the way.

You had to be able to see her coming on fast if she caught you in the middle of the intersection. As infrequently as they occur, I even allow for the possibility of a high speed chase in progress.

You are confusing dropping the policy to avoid payout- they can drop you anytime after settlement. You should have no complaint about this free market pressure to force all the bad drivers into the higher rate companies and allowing the better drivers to enjoy the lower rates from the discriminating ones.

So, how do you detect someone who is speeding and comes over a hill behind you when you are stopped and waiting to make a left turn? Even though I "Floored it", the dumb f*ck who hit me didn't hit his brakes till he was about ten feet from me because he was bent over in the seat and not watching the road. On top of that, it was a hit and run.

I know that exact same situation and avoid it like the plague. I once chewed the living hell out of a bunch VDOT retards ( a requisite for employment there from all appearances ) for stopping a bunch of cars on a high speed blind hill like that once. I pulled out of line and sped up to the flag man, told the idiot about his problem, then one of them that could actually talk referred me to the foreman, who was driving a bulldozer, and I chewed him out for putting retards on the line- then finally told them they can take their traffic direction and shove it- get out of my way because I'm coming through!

Not in Arizona. After some period of years you earn "non-drop". Your rates *can* be raised, but not out-of-bracket.

Around here a grern light is not a carte blanche invitation to enter the intersection. I treat them like yield signs. If nobody is coming I go. You might get T boned by that 40 ton concrete mixer or dump truck I was speaking of earlier. That will just smash you flat.

You really need roundabouts. They solve *all* these problems.

Yep, for several seconds. Apparently she was about 1/2 block away when I started across the intersection.

Works just great if your visibility is at least 500-800'.

I've been driving for 50 years... hit from the side twice, and had an idiot turn left in front of me as I just entered an intersection, but I've never caused an accident.

A side swipe is unlikely to be fatal whereas a T-bone is !

Fact is, Jim that statistics show roundabouts to be up to 6 times safer than intersections with lights and you don't even have the problem of having to stop for a red.

So, what's your excuse for the high level of US road fatalities ?

Our *rate* is lower than Germany's. I couldn't find a UK rate, but the raw count looks to be 7% of ours.

If you do the statistics per passenger mile I'd guess we are best.

I'm sorry but your road fatalities are lousy.

The UK figure hovers around 3000 annuallly. You have around 40,000 IIRC with a population ~ 5x higher. So you should be down to ~ 15,000 road deaths really. That's one heck of a difference esp. considering we have overall higher speed limits !

Just look at where most accidents occur and then open your mind for a change.

She was cited for 50 in a 35 zone, besides the citation for running the red. I was crossing 5 traffic lanes starting from zero speed... I was sitting waiting for the light to go green. She closed that 1/2 block in less than 4 seconds.
