Connector Question

The ceiling fan uses stranded wire. Although it is acceptable to use wire nuts with stranded wire, I have had no luck when I've tried it. I come back a few days or weeks later, and the wire nuts are either loose or fall off. The only trick that seems to work is to strip the wires twice a long as necessary, pre-twist the stranded wires together, bend the exposed copper in half, and then screw on the wire nut. Obviously, one must use a larger wire nut, which is also a problem. I've given up and only use 3M closed end crimp splices.

What also works well are the European style insulated barrier strips, which are intended for stranded wire, and are now UL here.

What I call it, isn't polite. If one breaks, get out the cutters and use a wire nut to make the connection.

I've got a nice stereo, but there's these funky snap-in speaker connections on the back, and I can't identify those connectors, either!

They look like some sort of automotive connector, although that's probably wrong.

Indeed that was a single pin Molex, female. The black box marked Power Limiter, is probable a "wattage limiter", required since 2009 by the DOE to prevent ceiling fan lighting to exceed 190Watts. It originally was a method to limit the wattage on multi-socket lights in which the consumer could use higher wattage bulbs. Now we see them in single lamp halogen fixtures too.

If either the connectors or the limiter gives trouble, they can be removed.

those are one shot quick solid wire connectors.. found in many cheap lighting fixtures and ballast lead wires, etc..

You simply push in the solid wire and the spring pin won't let you pull it out!
