Making the semiconductors is a relatively small part of the whole process of producing cheap electronic devices.

The idea of any country "registering" 50,000 semiconductor companies in one year is absurd. It's the same corrupt fad dynamics as the Chinese real-estate scam.

Communism always becomes savage and corrupt and inefficient. It's really the wrong environment for inventing and developing electronics. The US has lots of started-small innovative tech companies, some of which are world-dominant now. I see a some of that in the UK and Ireland and a bit in France and the Netherlands.

The sequence matters. Some outfits start with ideas and eventually make a lot of money. Some start with a heap of invested money, have no original ideas, and fail.

Jan is right about the propensity of the US to go into unnecessary and unjustifiable conflicts around the world, though. Vast sums of money squandered on these ridiculous and ultimately futile escapades. Just think what all that cash could have been better spent on. Those roads and bridges could use a bit of attention!

The youtube channel asianomerty, did a bit on China fabs a few years ago. Same spiel, lots of investments and bankruptcy. Even trying to steal tmsc engineers.

We should have stayed out of WWI and WWII. The history of europe is millenia of warfare. We should stay out of the current one too.

Another feature of communist countries is to steal ideas and industries [1]. I think the culture discourages local invention and especially risk taking and, ultimately, success.

The stealing is institutionalized, which doesn't work well.

Nobody ever adopted it, and there's rather too much around to make practical to use it as a currency.

Money is just an abstraction, invented to serve a medium of exchange. Using lumps of rare metals as the medium of exchange made it more difficult for people to cheat, but block-chains serve the same purpose.

We need governments with enough sense to see it that way - not that there's much chance of that.
