You'd have to cover this in basic electronics before power electronics tutorials or hardware design/constructional info would be of any use to you. You want electricity AC/DC and R,L,C basics.

Have you visited inductor manufacturer's sites? Many of them have useful design information.
Dunno about links, but this is by far the best book I've come across on the subject:

It goes into inductor calculations to a depth the others don't near.
