Nixon was run out of office for directly authorising a bunch of illegal act s, including the Watergate burglaries. Reagan wasn't run out of office for the equally illegal Contragate scandal, mainly because he was too far up th e tree to have direct knowledge of what was going on, and probably also bec ause he was too far gone into Alzheimers at the time to be held responsible for anything.
