AAA Battery Eliminator

I was planning on just getting a regulated AC-DC Adapter from Radio Shack or somewhere. Since it does not have an input on the player, I was just going to make a "plug-in battery." Does anyone see any problems with this design?

Where the picture on the right is a dowel hollowed out with a wire in it, and two screws on both ends to make the contact with the battery contacts. The AC-DC adapter would be set at 1.5 V (Regulated). Do I need anything else or does anyone see a problem with this?

If the adapter is rated for at least the current used by the device and you don't install the dummy battery backwards, it should work.

Me too. They don't last very long do they?

Well yes, of course.

Though you can't go very far with it plugged in.

I was thinking of wiring mine up to a single D cell.

A lot better value for money.

An ordinary LM317 adjustable regulator can regulate down to 1.25V.

If you want to get all fancy, you can measure the Voltage across the battery when the player is running. Then set your regulator to that Voltage, whatever it is.

You can buy dummy batteries, e.g:

Although they might be harder to find in AAA size.

use a thumbtack (or other flat contact) at the negative end, that way it won't make contact if installed backwards.
