Does anyone know of where I may obtain a VR36a zener and a 78L08 (TO-92)? Have checked several vendors with no luck.

Mouser has the 511-L7808ACZ for $.28 single quantity. The VR36A seems to be a zener. If it's just a common 36V 1W zener, then a 1N4753A or similar should work okay. The NTE5085A is a 36V substitute. Check Mouser for prices.
