Ok try this.

Put a small permanent magnet near the relay and adjust the spacing so it just doesn't close the contacts. Then operate the relay in the normal manner and see if it remains closed with the power off, Reverse the polarity of the current in the relay coil to release the contact.

This may require that you reverse the permanent magnet to get the magnetic polarity correct.
