Ten news adding up voltages

Ten news advises us that it's equivalent to 1 million volts. Apparently they feel it's physically meaningful to add together the voltages in successive jolts.

I wonder what is the sum of all the TV complaints line telephone numbers.

Dear Sylvia.

It is my duty to inform you that you will be lambasted by all and sundry for this post.

It seems you're saying there is no cumulative effect of being repeatedly tased. Perhaps if he recieved only 990000 volts |-|erc would be alive today.

An actual jolt of 1 million volts would dissipate about 400 times as much energy as a 50,000 volt jolt, whereas 20 succesive 50,000 volt jolts can only dissipate 20 times as much energy as a single jolt.

Except that the probes would have to be much further apart (30 cm or so) to avoid arcing through the air, so the effect would be quite different.

So saying 1 million volts is not only physically wrong, it doesn't even approximate to a representation of the effect.

"Queensland Police said data downloaded from the Taser used on a 39-year-old Antonio Galeano in Brandon, near Townsville, showed it operated on 28 separate cycles at the time of the incident on June 12. At first it was believed the man was tasered three times, now this figure that's come out is baffling,"

What's so baffling about police lying to cover their own arses, or just to make their life easier? They do it every day!

Is Mr Levers really that ignorant, or just playing along.

It's anyone's duty to inform you she has more of a clue than you do.

She didn't say that. And only a moron would interpret it as such.

If he received 990,000 * 1Volt "jolts" anyway. :-)

It's baffling that they would think they could get away with it, given that they should know that the device keeps a record, which would certainly be looked at after a fatality.

The conclusion must be that the police officers concerned are bafflingly stupid, or that the data is bafflingly wrong.

Nah - have you considered how long that would take? Both he, and the officer, would have died from sleep deprivation.

So do you expect the officers involved to be "charged"? :-))

OR

"Discharged" over the incident. :-))

Well I thought it was funny anyway.

Cheers TT :-))

The number of discharges does not necessarily that the person received all of them

Still, if it was discharged 20 times, and only 3 hit, then the officer needs some more training in aiming the thing.

Probably. But if one dart gets snagged in clothing but not make proper contact the operator might be pressing button and wondering why it was not working. I don't know what feedback or indication the operator gets on whether it is working. From what I gather they work in two modes. Darts on wires or direct contact. Also I gather they use differing charges.Heavier for initial disabling.
