How do I find and or select the best available indoor amplifier antenna.

Indoor amplifier is for amplifying signal to drive an antenna cable that splits into 4 or 5 or 6...
If you have noise, you need to move antenna/amplifier out of the noisy area.. eg up to mast head.
Correct me if I'm wrong..
The higher the Amplifier Gain in dB and Gain Control in dB the better?
