propagation delay, impedance and voltage drop for STP cable

Hi,

Are there any specific formulae or tools available for calculating Shielded Twisted Pair cables' propagation delay, impedance and voltage drops??

Yes, but I don't know where to lay my hands on them. In general you won't be far wrong in assuming 100 ohm impedance, and going from there. Ship a pulse down it, and adjust ther termination until it no longer reflects. That, together with the actual line length under test, gives you impedance and delay.

This link might be of some use.

Alternatively a couple of older books that happen to be on my shelf.

"Higher Electrical Engineering" by Sheppard Morton and Spence.

"Radio and Line Transmission" by Green.

I'll drag out the ISBN numbers only if you need them.

That brings back very old memories, especially as one of the authors was head of department at my college.
