SPDIF input and output levels

Hi,

Digital Audio receiver ICs like DIR9001 and CS8414 mention the diff voltage level at their input pins RXP and RXN as 200mv min while the Digital Audio Transsmitters like DIT4096 and CS8406 use 5V logic levels. How are they compatible with wide difference in levels? I am looking at using them for SPDIF transmission and reception.

Thanks in advance

The 200mV spec on the receiver is the minimum differential voltage needed between the inputs to guarantee that it can detect the input signal level and work correctly with it. That spec does not however tell you much about the "normal working levels" that you would typically experience. So check again in the receiver data sheets and look for parameters such as the maximum input differential voltage and the common mode input voltage range. These parameters will establish the high end of signaling and "normal" will be somewhere between those levels and the minimum differential value.
