Re: OT: "High" Temperature Paint?

We have a plate-warmer/food-keep-warm drawer located at almost floor

I hate paint!

Idea 1 Create a notch in the dial using a rotary tool (dremel) and press fit a sliver of shiny metal (aluminum). If the press fit doesn't work, try gluing it in with 2 part methacrylate adhesive. (Dunno the heat resistance of that stuff though..) Or..make a blind hole and insert a piece of metal rod.

Benefit: No paint that can get attacked by heat, oil, smoke and cleaners.

Idea 2 Fill a notch in the dial with titanium oxide pigment mixed with methacrylate adhesive. Or...perhaps white silicone.

Benefit: No dot that can get rubbed off.

Idea 3 Get a new knob.

Idea 4

I think that's carried by Home Depot

Idea 5 Drill a hole, tap it and screw in a nice tiny shiny brass bolt.

Well...I'll stop there...I can probably come up with 15 more ideas...

Instead of splicing in pieces of metal..splice in high temp white plastic. Ex: Hack up some white plastic microwave cookware (bacon).

Or...while hacking up high temp plastic.. Perhaps shave that plastic and see if a solvent (methylene chloride or MEK) will dissolve it to make your own plastic bonding plastic cement.

MULTIPLE GOOD IDEAS! Rod or bolt both sound good to me!

THANKS!

Go with a stainless steel rod or a tiny stainless bolt if possible. Other metals might dull with oxidization or cleaners.

Or if it produces better contrast a black chrome finish.

I cheated. I sent the knobs with my wife to her fingernail appointment today... nice shiny white dots ;-)

[snip]

When I pulled the knobs off they proved to be hollow on the back... not enough body thickness to tap :-(

But you did "ring my chime"... that's what I need, a FLASHING LED ;-)
