xkbset fault

Recent new install of RPi OS 64 (bookworm, '25 May) on RPi3.



I prefer to use sticky keys, and on systems which don't have a desktop function to enable that, I always install xkbset which has a sticky keys function, and to disable latchlock and twokeys and have the expiry result in sticky keys on.



BUT... the latest RPiOS + xkbset (0.6-3) fails w/ any command (except empty which gives the xkbset help info) and gives this result instead:



XKB not supported for display :0



I don't even know what that means. The current xkbset works properly 'elsewhere' such as in Puppy BookWorm.



what can I do to fix this? And what does the 'result' mean?

Probably means you’re running Wayland.

xkbset now works for all my purposes sticky keys, no latchlock, no twokey, no expiry.

For my purposes, sticky keys is worth more to me than xwayland.

Sticky keys are available under Wayland -- no need for XWayland. You were just trying to use an X11-specific utility to set them, which is why it failed.

On the systems I use which have Wayland, typically they also have a DE which has a function to set sticky.

On the systems I use which use a WM or LXQt/LXDE which don't have a DE function for sticky, I use xkbset, such as raspbian, puppy, easyos.

On my hardware, xwayland is employed more often than wayland.
