Is it an 3000B or 3000S ?? Big difference. The S has a spectrum analyzer.

I have a 3000B that I bought on eBay for very little. I think it was $300 including shipping. However, it is missing some key components. If you're interested in selling yours for parts, please let me know and set a price.

Argh. Sounds major, like a power supply. There are test points on the power supply board if you remove the cover.

The most common failure I've found on 3 units is unfortunately crappy solder connections on the main board and front panel. Of course, these are the most difficult to access and repair. Also broken IC connectors on the ends of ribbon cables. However, the most common problems are due to the failure of the TI TL-607 FET switch. The chip is almost completely unobtainable. Fortunately, most of the chips are in sockets, so are easily replaced. That's one of the parts I need to fix mine.

There is also the common problem of aging electrolytics on such old units. It's likely that some of the electrolytic cazapitors in the power supply are the culprit. Check with an ESR cazapitor tester.

There was someone selling 8 of them on eBay several months ago. He ended up dragging them to the Dayton Ham convention in May. I think the 3000B's went for $500 while the 3000S went for $900 or more. If you want, I'll dig out the old email and you can ask him for the exact selling price.
