hi i have a yamaha stereo reciever i moved it to a differnt location and hooked everything up and it will only turn on for about 5 seconds then turn back off i unhooked everything and it still does it

Most likely there is a fault in the receiver itself. If you aren't a technician this is not something you can fix yourself.
You can try unhooking all the speaker wires from the back of the receiver and see if it still malfunctions, but if a speaker wire were shorted it probably would not wait five seconds to shut down.
A model number would be nice.

If everything is unhooked it still does it. The model number is HTR-5830
