toshiba CX35D60 broken - I turn it on and it turns itself right off

Suddenly, yesterday, my TV broke. It had worked great for years. Here's the behavior: I turn it on, by plugging it in. The red light on the front of the TV goes on for a second, then it goes off. The TV is effectively dead.

----------------------------------------- I tried leaving it unplugged for hours before trying again. That didn't help the situation.

----------------------------------------- Any idea what could be wrong. Can it be fixed? Thanks.

My guess would be power supply or deflection failure. It can be fixed but unless you have significant electronics experience, you will have to take it to a professional. And, of course, decide how much you are willing to pay to fix it. This may not be a major repair as these things go but it's still not cheap.
